What we’ve done is to push happiness “over the cognitive horizon” as a society because we think that success leads to happiness. But our brains work in the opposite order. Learn to achieve the “happiness advantage” from Shawn Achor who spent 12 years studying what makes people happy at Harvard University. He later authored The Happiness Advantage and founded the Institute of Positive Research and GoodThinkInc. His TEDx talk “The Happy Secret to Better Work” is one of the 20-most viewed TED talks. His most recent book is Before Happiness, published by Crown in September (2013). This book features research that Achor conducted with Ali Crum and Peter Salovey at Yale University at the large Swiss bank UBS, which was published in the premier journal The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. This work demonstrates that changing one’s mindset about stress changing the physical effects of stress.
